Top Skin Care Tips

Skin Care by Debbie Locke Health and Beauty Spa

Dry areas on thighs, elbows and arms are a common problem. The best way to treat this is with a gentle scrub or loofah, then apply body lotions after each shower or bath.

***************

When showering or bathing, use luke warm water rather than hot water; hot water has a drying effect and will rob the skin of its natural moisture, causing broken capillaries and dry, flaking skin.

***************

If you suffer from dry and cracked skin on the heels of your feet, then try putting a petroleum jelly, e.g. Vaseline, on the affected areas just before bedtime. Protect the coating (and your sheets!) using socks and when you get up in the morning your feet will be nice, soft and supple.

***************

Feet can be rather neglected and for some people, present a real problem. Did you know that wearing talcum powder in your shoes will help to prevent excess sweating? This is important since people with sweaty feet can become.....people with smelly feet! Pass the cheese! Seriously though, look after your feet. after having a bath or shower, use a pumice stone 2 -3 times a week on the hard areas. You will be amazed at the reduction in hard skin.

***************

It is a good idea to exfoliate your skin, (i.e. remove the top dead layer of skin cells), every couple of days aftering waxing. This will help to prevent 'ingrowing' hairs. You can exfoliate your skin by using an exfoliating cleanser; choose one with a grainy texture, containing ingredients like oatmeal, ground almonds or even sea salt. For a very mild exfoliation, use a hand cloth.
